Halloween has passed, and the holiday season is here.
Santa is good news for retailers, who do most of their business between now and the end of the year. For most everyone else, it's a witch's brew of bad news, as sales fall off.
Let's not take the Scrooge-like position of demanding an end to the holidays. Instead, try these Fresh! spells to boost sales through the rest of the year.
- Think Next Year.What changes took place in this year that demand action by your target audience next year? Do you have a product or service that saves energy? Keeps people safe? Helps with disaster recovery? Facilitates compliance with new laws?
- Do the unexpected. Instead of sending a holiday card, send a Winter Solstice card. If you act quickly, there's still time to get out a Thanksgiving card! If you missed Thanksgiving and the Solstice, try Groundhog Day!
- Cross-promote. Look at the other seasonal promotions going on and go one better. If you're in the heating and air conditioning business and you see competitors offering discounts on furnace cleanings, offer a discount on the furnace cleaning and throw in a free a/c inspection, or a blanket with your logo on it.
- Start blogging. If you don't want to start your own, contribute to others.
- Give a unique gift. If you can't think of a gift that's related to your product or service, give a gift they'll remember a peppermint pig, a bonsai tree, or marshmallow shooter.
- Check their pockets. If you have customers with annual budgets with funds remaining, let them pay for future services.
- Climb on the PR broomstick. Get a speaking gig, create a teleclass, or write an article.
- Give thanks. Call and personally thank your best customers/clients. Don't make it a sales call. Use this time of "Thanksgiving" to keep your most important business relationships Fresh!
